“spiritschweppes” is a private cultural and marketing project—as well as a unique global collection—curated by Hans-Jürgen Krackher. It explores the history of the international brand Schweppes and the development of the global soft drink industry.
The term is a play on words based on the well-known beverage brand; its creator defines it as a metaphor for “mental freshness” and an entrepreneurial, pioneering spirit.
The project consists of the following core components:
- The Marketing Cabinet: A private, cross-brand collection based in Potsdam, comprising over 3,000 historical artifacts. This includes rare, antique bottles, such as the famous 19th-century “torpedo bottle” (or “egg bottle”).
- The “Fizzy Family”: A global online community and network—initiated by the founder—that brings together treasure hunters, collectors, historians, and experts to share historical knowledge about carbonated beverages.
- The Vision for 2033: Krackher operates the project as an autonomous, open-source online initiative via the official website, spiritschweppes.com. His goal is to launch an international roadshow on the history of soda water by 2033—marking the 250th anniversary of Jacob Schweppe’s invention.
Note: The project is entirely independent and is explicitly not supported by the current rights holders or bottlers of the Schweppes brand (such as Krombacher or Coca-Cola).
